Mitch Berg

Mitch Berg graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1986 with a degree in Journalism, a minor in Geophysics while he endeavored in a single art class.

He moved to Santa Fe where he was exposed to glass art in 1996 at Ann Miller Glass Studio (later Xeno Glass) and started playing around with making glass beads on a torch. He befriended a prominent glass artist, Duane Dahl, who showed him the possibilities of kiln fused glass. His artistic curiosity and enthusiasm for making sculpture grew. Soon Berg started to include welded metal, altered wood, found objects--anything that seemed interesting became possible material to mix with glass.

Mitch is continually experimenting with combining torch and fused glass techniques and figuring out new ways to engineer a wide variety of non-traditional materials to blend with glass. He has especially a love for the contrast of non-precious materials (junk and cultural trash) with the elegance and playful colors of glass. Ultimately,  he considers himself a storyteller and finds this very personal artform has proven to be a great way to tell stories.
