INTERSECTIONAL: JULIA RIVERA
DETOUR Gallery is pleased to present Intersectional, a new exhibition featuring all new, original works by Julia Rivera.
“I have become a political artist: writing letters, making calls, posting on Facebook and protesting. Our democracy is designed to speak the truth… ”
The above words of the iconic Julia Rivera are testamentary to the power of her works and her fierce commitment to creating a better world. Rivera’s works have a way of contagiously drawing viewers and creative minds, alike, into an inspiring space... A space that reflects her passion for fighting against injustice while raising awareness about the need for equality and inclusion in society.
Approaching her paintings, a talent is revealed that shines through creativity and innovation. A hunger to command affirmative change. Rivera is quoted as saying: “My message has always been balance, peace and survival. I try to touch the world emotionally through my sculptures and paintings…”
