KeeDa

October 3 - 30, 2024

Detour Gallery is thrilled to present KeeDa, a solo exhibition by contemporary artist KeeDa, opening on October 3, 2024. Known for her evocative oil and acrylic paintings, Keeda’s latest work delves into the profound connection between her childhood experiences and the ever-changing beauty of nature.

Through a dynamic use of color and texture, Keeda draws from her memories of both city and countryside life, creating a rich tapestry that captures the interplay between people and their surroundings. Her bold, vibrant use of red, yellow, and blue reflects nature's vivid transformations and the emotional resonance of past moments.

Keeda’s early experiences, including the nostalgic image of powdered red bricks, offer a window into her deeply personal artistic journey. Her work pays homage to her community and to the country roads and fields where she once walked hand in hand with her grandfather. These landscapes, infused with shifting light and movement, are painted from memory, reflecting the fleeting beauty of life as it is remembered.

Eschewing the use of photographs, Keeda relies on personal recollections, translating these moments onto canvas with a unique immediacy. Her use of acrylics on canvas enhances the spontaneity of her process, allowing her to explore the evolving dreams and emotions that fuel her creative vision.

Keeda’s artistic journey began in childhood, and her unique approach to transformation is shaped by the legacies of Edward Hopper, Gauguin, Van Gogh, and her grandfather. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, Chung-Ang University, and has studied further at Alberta State University School of Art. Her exhibition history includes notable solo and group shows across South Korea and Canada.
