Guttestreker

Guttestreker is a collaborative artistic force composed of Petter Malterud Grøndahl (born 1989) and Christoffer Kroge Christensen (born 1990). Working from their base in Oslo, Norway, they create expansive artworks that delve into contemporary issues. Each piece, meticulously crafted with pen, markers, and digital tools, takes several months to half a year to complete.

Drawing inspiration from natural discoveries, historical events, generational challenges, and academic literature, Guttestreker's art is grounded in scientific principles. This intellectual foundation imbues each work with a distinct thematic focus, sparking meaningful conversations. Their piece "Fair heir," for example, explores the concept of inheritance, questioning whether we truly deserve what we believe belongs to us.

This exhibition marks a pivotal moment for Guttestreker— their first solo exhibition overseas, introducing their captivating work to the US audience. This is a significant step in their artistic journey, a testament to their dedication to growth and innovation.

Beyond their own expressive endeavours, Guttestreker is committed to fostering a creative community. Their commitment extends to operating their own gallery and art print studio, where they have exhibited the work of established and emerging Norwegian artists.

Guttestreker believes art should be accessible and engaging. Their upcoming exhibition promises to be just that – playful and relatable. The artists often employ a dystopian theme, depicting parallel universes where things have gone awry. These meticulously crafted scenes, bursting with vibrant colours and intriguing details, serve as a springboard for viewers to contemplate the challenges facing their generation.

Despite the dystopian undercurrent, Guttestreker injects humour through whimsical figures, objects, and vibrant colours. Recurring motifs like the "Doomsday Clock" and "Māori" statues add another layer of intrigue, inviting viewers to delve deeper into the profound philosophical inquiries that lie beneath the surface.
